Spreading Joy-By Murthy

Spreading Joy

Nov 13, 2011 Chennai
In Chennai, this Sunday (6th November) is yet another wet day. Though rain is not pouring continuously, time and again clouds gather in a blackish tinge and it pours for a few minutes. Then gentle drizzle continues. Sometimes during the day, the blue sky appears and the sun tries to peep out only to be defeated by the clouds again. The sun is an absolute monarch during summer. It mercilessly emits its rays in millions towards the earth inhabitants. But during the rainy days, how badly the sun loses its battle against these black clouds?

Like this rain and shine, I realize that life too is a mixture of grief and joy. For a retired person, joy results from different things. Sometimes, it is due to a phone call from your son or daughter announcing that he or she got a promotion. Some other times, it originates from the birth of a grandchild and so on. Grief too may have many causes. What I mean is that joy always may not result from a single cause except perhaps from eating a tasty meal or reading a great book. But now a days, happiness consistently results from one particular event, even on a cloudy and gloomy Sunday. You all know what it is!

Yes, it is the TDR Times that transforms your Sunday morning into a thrilling sojourn. After reading all the articles, your mind starts itching to give your feedback. If you postpone, you start feeling guilty. Never did I imagine that an Internet magazine could produce such a momentous reaction on the readers. I am just thinking about our beloved Venkatarama Sir’s articles about his teachers and colleagues. He wrote about my grandfather. I forwarded the article to my relatives. The reaction was explosive.
Not that they did not know about their father or grandfather. The reason for their excited reaction was the author. Sir wrote about Sri.Vaithilinga Iyer. I forwarded the article to his grandson, who again sent the articles to many of his relatives. The reaction was again a predictable excitement. The reason again should be credited to the author. Sir’s article about Sri Mahadeva Sir again produced an unstoppable feedback, like a broken dam. We also witnessed such a surge of feedbacks, starting as a ripple and then cascading into a formidable whirlpool, in respect of the articles about writer Sri.jayarama Iyer and TVR Sir as well as Thotta Sir.

One conclusion we can infer without any hesitation is that TDRites in all age groups, particularly the off springs of the precious gems called the teachers of TDR, are sufficiently pumped up and are in a mood to play their part for the betterment of the school and the village by identifying themselves with TOSA.The day is not far off when the people of TDR will have just two classes, TOSAites and non-TOSAites. When that day dawns, the name Sangamam will shine brightly and aptly, since it will be nothing short of the Kumbh Mela or Maha Magam.

To achieve this goal, let us resolve to work hard and introduce new members. This is one surest way of spreading joy to as many people as possible.
